Kiambu, Kenya — Kenyan comedian Zakaria Kariuki, popularly known by his stage name KK Mwenyewe, has passed away at the age of 22 following a short illness. The rising star died on the evening of Monday, July 14, while receiving treatment at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital, according to close friends and fellow comedians.
His death was confirmed by fellow content creator Kafengo, who took to social media to express grief and share the news with fans and the comedy fraternity.
“We are heartbroken to announce the untimely demise of Zakaria Kariuki, famously known as Mr. KK Mwenyewe,” the statement read. “He passed away yesterday evening while undergoing medical attention at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital.”

KK Mwenyewe rose to national prominence in 2022 through his viral impersonations of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, which earned him widespread acclaim on social media. His skits, which humorously mimicked the DP’s speech patterns, fashion choices, and mannerisms, made him a household name.
Dressed in oversized suits and exaggerated ties, the comedian recreated public appearances of the Deputy President with uncanny accuracy—striking a balance between satire and respect.
