Millions of Virgin Media broadband customers in the UK faced a major disruption on Monday morning, with internet connections going down nationwide and preventing access to services like Sky Sports. Downdetector received over 400 outage reports within hours, as users expressed growing frustration over slow or unusable live chat support.
Countless subscribers took to social media to report issues ranging from complete Wi-Fi blackouts to repeated login failures. One user described a “massive problem with my Wi‑Fi,” noting they’d been advised to use live chat—only to receive no meaningful assistance. Another cautioned that prolonged outages appear to be becoming the norm.
The disruption coincided with the final day of a key Test cricket match, causing additional frustration when fans couldn’t use the Sky Sports app to follow the action. Several reported getting “access denied” errors despite previous successful logins.
Virgin Media has not yet released an official statement on the incident. Their social media team has responded sporadically, directing affected customers to contact support. A similar blackout occurred in February, during which the company apologised and pledged to resolve the problem swiftly.
As the impact remains unclear, users are left wondering what went wrong, how long repairs will take, and whether compensation will follow.
