Former Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa could soon have a new political home after Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka proposed her for the position of Deputy Party Leader.
Kalonzo made the proposal on Friday, August 14, 2026, during a visit to Jumwa’s home in Kakuyuni, Kilifi County, just weeks after she walked away from President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
The move adds another interesting twist to Jumwa’s political journey, particularly as politicians across the country begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Kalonzo makes the offer at Jumwa’s home
Kalonzo arrived at Jumwa’s residence and publicly praised her political experience, describing her as a formidable politician with considerable influence.
He then proposed that she take up the Deputy Party Leader position in Wiper.
Rather than simply making the announcement himself, Kalonzo asked those gathered at the meeting to support the proposal.
He argued that Jumwa’s political experience had not received the recognition it deserved from her previous political formations.
The proposal, if formally adopted by the party, would give Jumwa a senior position within Wiper and place her much closer to Kalonzo’s political camp.
Jumwa recently quit UDA
The development comes only a few weeks after Jumwa announced her resignation from UDA.
On July 30, the former Public Service Cabinet Secretary confirmed that she had left the ruling party after what she described as a period of frustration and disappointment.
Jumwa said her decision followed prayer, personal reflection and consultations with people in her political base in Kilifi.
Her departure immediately sparked speculation about her next political move, especially given her long-standing interest in the Kilifi gubernatorial race.
Wiper had already opened its doors
Jumwa’s possible move to Wiper did not come completely out of the blue.
Senior Wiper politicians had already begun reaching out to her shortly after she left UDA.
Earlier in August, Wiper leaders, including Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua and Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako, met Jumwa in Malindi before holding discussions at her home.
Those meetings fuelled speculation that Jumwa could soon join the party.
Kalonzo’s latest proposal now appears to have taken those discussions a step further.
A significant move ahead of 2027
If Jumwa eventually accepts the position and the party formally confirms her appointment, she would become one of the most prominent figures in Wiper’s leadership.
Her experience in national politics, particularly her time as a Cabinet Secretary and her years as an elected leader in Kilifi, could make her an important addition as Wiper prepares for the 2027 political contest.
The move could also have implications along the Coast, where political alliances are expected to play a major role in determining the outcome of the next election.
For Jumwa, meanwhile, the proposed position offers a fresh platform after her dramatic exit from UDA.
One thing is already clear: her departure from UDA has not marked the end of her political ambitions—it may simply be the beginning of another chapter.
